My phone makes it through 2 years of touring Europe in an oversized sardine can on wheels…
and then I go and lose it at Sydney airport!
Being quite distressed, I decided to eat some Chinese food (as you do). Found this inside a fortune cookie and 30 minutes later my phone was handed in to lost property. Ha.
Now we’re boarding a plane for our next international adventure in Europe & the States. And, fingers crossed, we’re taking this little cookie’s fortune with us. See you on the road!

Love and support to our fans in Ukraine and Venezuela, two countries that are on fire right now. Stay safe - we’re thinking of you. #euromaidan #ukraine #venezuela
It was Martin Luther King day this Monday. The day commemorates the birth of one of the greatest spokespeople for non-violent civil rights activism the world has ever seen. The obvious truth that all people are created equal is something we humans often have difficulty understanding. His eloquent and powerful words continue to educate and inspire to this day.
Unfortunately there are still a lot of people that don’t grasp the concept of equality. To those people, MLK has a question for you…

Happy new year everyone!
We wanted to start 2014 by saying thank you to all of our amazing fans. This is our full time job and being a small independent band, it’s isn’t always an easy one. The last couple of years have challenged us in ways we couldn’t have imagined. But we’ve learned a lot about ourselves and grown immeasurably as a band and as individuals.
We started our ‘Gypsy Tour’ in 2010 and we’ve been living on the road ever since. We’ve done around 4-5 shows a week, every week, for the last 3 years. It’s been intense. But you shared your couches, lounge rooms and homes with us. When we toured the UK someone actually moved out of their house so we could have the luxury of separate rooms for a weekend. You fed us, took us to your favourite hangouts and taught us how to swear in 8 different languages. You share our music across the internet every day to help us get heard. You’ve become more than just our fans- you’re our family.
The next few years will still be tough but we’re now able to cover our fuel and food costs. Things are growing steadily, the shows are getting bigger and we’re pumped.
2014 is going to a big year for us. We’re working hard on a new album which will be out in October. We’ll be doing some summer festivals in Europe and heading to the US for a 3 month 70-date tour. It’s our first trip to the States and our American fans are already offering us their couches! Then it’s back to the UK and Europe for another club tour. Also ‘King of the Sugarcoated Tongues’ will be released in the US, Canada, Australia and Japan in February so expect more interviews and reviews in the coming months.
So thank you guys! Thank you for taking this crazy ride with us. Thank you for making it possible. We hope you have an amazing 2014. We can’t wait to share ours with you.

15 seconds with The Roots. These guys are too talented to be human. I’m thinking aliens, or maybe cyborgs.
Absolutely mind blowing gig in Sydney! Questlove was on fire. If you haven’t seen them live, do it. You’ll never look at live music the same way again.

The beach outside the ancient Hindu temple at Keerimalai, just north of Jaffna in Sri Lanka. This ocean is especially sacred to the Tamils of Jaffna, who scatter the ashes of their loved ones here after the funeral.
When the Sri Lankan army occupied the area the priests were forced to leave and access was prohibited. It’s been pretty moving to hear how people risked their lives to lay our family members to rest here.

At my aunty’s place today. Unspoilt, tranquil isolation. It’s hard to explain how peaceful it is here. The only sounds to be heard are nature, chanting from the nearby Hindu temple or the occasional hum of the pump pulling water from the well.
The army kicked the Tamils out of this suburb in 1990 and occupied their houses for almost 20 years. It’s only since 2009 that people have been allowed to return to their homes, most of which are now missing roofs, windows and in a bad state of disrepair.
Spent last night indoors and under the stars at the same time. Got woken up by and had to chase off a few street dogs and cats that wandered in looking for food. They’re like ninjas and take full advantage of the lack of doors and windows.
It’s not an easy life but the rebuilding continues. The Tamil people are determined and proud, despite still being severely restricted under the current government.

Spending a few days with my grandfather in Jaffna, Sri Lanka’s most northern city. This is the place my parents left 40 years ago due to anti-Tamil discrimination. It’s a very different place to the Colombo because of the war.
He’s lived through British colonial rule, independence, riots, a decades long civil war, has practiced medicine in 3 continents & has now made his way back to his birthplace to rebuild the family home that was bombed. He’s 91 years old. Kind of puts things in perspective…
